We are mostly finished with our outreach.  It was a hard push to the end. I had an opportunity to table at North Middle School in Aurora last evening.  This was followed by the final session of the youth facilitators’ training.  I am exhausted.  But as I talked with the students at North Middle and our facilitators, I am reminded of why I put so much of my energy and resources to the program.  They are the future and I am always amazed how much they shine with just a little training, a little attention, a little trust in their potential.  We don’t pause long enough to believe in our youth, to invest our energy to spending time with them.  They are extremely bright and beautiful.

Once the program starts, I will have some time to sit with our progress.  We were definitely more organized this year but we really need to connect with the schools sooner rather than later. How can we sustain this kind of outreach when we do not have the money to support a part-time organizer?  This is something I would need to discuss with our board members. Yes, more meetings and more conversations.  But that is for tomorrow … after the program ends.

Thankfully, it is Labor Day weekend which allows us to relax and rejuvenate.
