April

“Tired, tired with nothing, tired with everything, tired with the world’s weight he had never chosen to bear.”

― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beautiful and Damned

Since I have been battling exhaustion, perhaps even feeling a little burned out (see blog), I am going to keep this newsletter short, really short.  It’s been a busy month. I have been busy writing proposals to support Platform as it grows with all the programming that we have planned: Activism@Work, Spring workshops, and YouthPlatform.  And of course, I have been exploring ways to maintain my intellectual property over the potential book, textbook, and a series of workbooks that will be developed from the program while supporting Platform and YouthPlatform.  I always believed the need to protect myself while growing the organization.  I have known too many directors who give everything to an organization only to have them be dismissed without any benefits.  Then I also have to consider the different contributors and consultants - how will they be compensated for their work?  Well, this is not an easy feat.  I have some ideas but it is not completely fleshed out and it will most definitely take time.

I finally feel like everything is in place to grow Platform.  I do and I actually have people in mind who would best fill the positions that I would like to create.  Now, we just need the money to properly execute the plan. I really hate people working for no pay.  It is unethical. Period. What will it look like if we do not get the grant money?  I am struggling to find a backup plan.  But this will be difficult because we are not talking about a few thousand here and there but 100,000’s of dollars to sustain Platform the way I envision it.

April will again be busy for us at Platform.  As we enter the final month of Activism@Work, prepare for both of our Spring workshops for womxn activists and youth in May, and plan for marketing and funding our programs in the upcoming Fall, we will be brainstorming and executing our plans.  So wait and see what will unfold.  Until then, please think about donating to Platform.
